Math Acceleration Class Structure
Math Acceleration Class Structure
Middle School Math Acceleration classes are online classes created in Schoology and use a program called ALEKS. Students should be comfortable learning in an online environment and working independently with support from their online teacher.

How the class works
Students complete their online math class using two main platforms:
ALEKS

Think of ALEKS as the main learning platform for math content, practice, quizzes, and tests.
Schoology

Think of Schoology as the class “home base” where students check announcements, view materials, and access class information.
Are you ready to take an online class?
We encourage all students to review the resources below to help self-assess their readiness for online learning.
Strategies for Online Success
Review practical tips and strategies that can help students succeed in an online class.

Online Learner Readiness Rubric
Use this rubric to reflect on independence, organization, time management, and readiness for online learning.

What do students need and where do they work?
- Students need regular access to a computer and the internet.
- Students should not regularly use a mobile device to complete their classwork.
- Work locations are building-specific.
- In many middle school buildings, students work in the media center.
- In elementary buildings, students often work in the classroom or hallway.
- Some schools may only have one student participating in the program.
What do students do every day?
Students should plan to spend about 5 hours per week learning.
Each day, students should plan to:
- check their school email
- check Schoology announcements
- log in and complete activities in ALEKS or Schoology
How do students learn in an online math class?
Students need to be able to learn math concepts through the reading of text and viewing video. They may also need to seek outside resources for extra help.
Online teacher support is available through email and Zoom sessions. (Regular, in-person support is not available.)
