Class Expectations

Class Expectations and Advancement Requirements

Students enrolled in the A2 Virtual+ Middle School Math Acceleration Program must meet specific academic expectations and demonstrate mastery of course content before advancing to the next mathematics course.

Requirements for Advancement

Students must complete all of the following requirements, in the order listed, before advancing to the next class:

  1. Achieve 100% mastery in ALEKS by completing all required topics (Mastered + Learned) as shown in the ALEKS Learning Pie.
  2. Earn a score of 90% or higher on all Schoology projects and discussion assignments.
  3. Earn a score of 90% or higher on all Unit Tests.
  4. Earn a score of 90% or higher on the Cumulative Exam.
  5. When applicable, earn a score of 80% or higher on the Proctored District End-of-Course Assessment.

Test Retake Policy

If a student earns less than 90% on a Unit Test or Cumulative Exam, the following steps are required before a retake:

  • Review all topics in the current ALEKS course.
  • Demonstrate 100% mastery of the course material in ALEKS.
  • Complete one retake opportunity.

Assessment Expectations

  • Only one retake is permitted for each assessment.
  • The highest possible score on a retake is 90%.
  • If a student scores below 90% on the retake, a conference involving the student, parent/guardian, and online math teacher will be scheduled to determine next steps.
  • Students should prepare before beginning any assessment. Assessments should not be used simply to determine what a student knows.
  • There is only one opportunity to retake ALEKS assessments.
  • There are no retake opportunities for District End-of-Course Assessments.

Student Expectations

  • Work at an appropriate pace and take ownership of learning.
  • Take notes and show all mathematical work in a notebook.
  • Contact the instructor whenever assistance is needed.
  • During any gap between courses, continue reviewing material in the current course to maintain skills and readiness.

Weekly Attendance Requirement

Every Wednesday, students must complete the required attendance activity in Schoology.

Proctored Activities

Each course includes at least two proctored activities. These activities are identified at the beginning of the course.

Proctoring means that the student must complete the activity in the presence of an A2 Virtual+ staff member.

Fifth-grade students must attend an evening proctoring session, as proctoring is not available during the school day at their elementary school. The schedule of available proctoring sessions will be posted on the A2 Virtual+ website.
